Enhancing Students’ Learning Motivation Through Learning Analytics Approach in Online Learning System

Abstract
The world has now entered the era of "big data", an era in which there is an exponential growth in the amount of data and automated use of information. The development of new technology in the big data era contributes to the field of education, particularly in the evolution of online-based learning or e-learning. Big data has changed the approach in designing an e-Learning. When students interact with content in E-Learning, automatically generating data, we can collect and trace their learning tracks. The data is processed and analyzed, then used to understand the behavioral characteristics of the user or student to enable a personal learning experience. In this study, learning analytics dashboard was used to improve their learning motivation. Tests were conducted on 53 students in the Instructional Technology Department of the State University of Malang and distributed questionnaires and then analyzed using descriptive methods. The result is that most of the students who take online learning using the learning analytics dashboard find it helpful to carry out self-evaluations of the learning progress hence they can manage the time in learning effectively and efficiently.
